The Royal Veterinary College

The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) is the UK’s first and largest veterinary school and a constituent College of the University of London. It received the maximum score of 24 out of 24 in an assessment of teaching standards by the Quality Assurance Agency in February 2000. In 1999 it also became the first UK veterinary school to be accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association.

The College is one of the leading veterinary research centres in Europe and received 5 out of 5 in the latest Research Assessment Exercise. It also provides support for the veterinary profession through its three referral hospitals, diagnostic services and continuing professional development courses.

King’s College London

King’s College London was established by King George IV in 1829 and became one of the founding colleges of the University of London. It is now a multi-faculty institution with some 17,160 students occupying a leading position in higher education in the UK and enjoying a world-wide reputation for teaching and research.

King’s was established next to Somerset House on land granted in perpetuity by the Crown, and this Strand campus is still the College’s main site, in the heart of London, close to the seat of Government, the City, the Royal Courts of Justice and the Inns of Court.

Established in the former Royal Naval School - still the College’s main building - at New Cross, it is dedicated to ‘the promotion of technical skill, knowledge, health and general well-being among men and women of the industrial, working and artisan classes’.

Founded in 1823 as the London Mechanics’ Institution Birkbeck College was incorporated into the University of London by Royal Charter in 1920. Students registered at the College for University of London degrees are Internal Students of the University.
